South Florida Aim for High Tech Jobs
Description: Floridas southern counties are working to attract and retain high tech jobs to the region. Since 2005, Palm Beach County has been laying a foundation for establishing promising jobs, especially in the bioscience field. Broward Country has had its focus on retaining jobs in technology and international business by attracting new regional and corporate operations. The slow progress in Floridas southern counties have been overshadowed by its real estate and economic slump. in June, Palm Beach County had an unemployment rate of 6 percent, Miami Dade County at 5.5, and Broward County at 5.1. Most job losses occurred in the construction industry. With hopes of providing new jobs, South Florida is moving towards more jobs in the bioscience, aerospace, energy, and technology fields. Such better quality and higher paying jobs are a step away from traditional Florida jobs. Palm Beach County recently made a $190 million deal with German biomedical research institute, Max Planck Society. Max Planck is expected to provide 1,800 new jobs over the next 20 years and is a perfect example of South Floridas job creation strategy of attracting such companies. http://www.EmploymentCrossing.com
